Deuteronomy 18:15-19
15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; 16 According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. 17 And the LORD said unto me, They have well [spoken that] which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require [it] of him.
(v. 15) Promise: God will raise up a Prophet like unto Moses, we are to hear Him and heed His Word.
(v. 16) According to their desire at Mt. Horeb. Cf. Exodus 20:18-21; Deut. 5:23-31.
(v. 17-18) Well-spoken that which they had spoken — who can stand in the presence of God and hear His Word?
Jesus the fulfillment — the Prophet like unto Moses — the Mediator of a new covenant. Acts 3:22-23; John 1:14-18; 3:31-34; God the Father on the Mount of Transfiguration — Luke 9:34-35. The Great Commission — Matthew 28:18-20.
(v. 19) Those who do not listen to and heed the voice of the Son will be judged by God. Cf. John 8:42-47; 12:44-50; John 3:14-18, 36; Heb. 1:1-3; 2:1-4.
Do you hear the Son and heed His Word? He calls upon you to repent of your sinful ways and look to Him and His cross in faith for pardon and forgiveness. Cf. Luke 24:46-47.
Cf. 1 John 5:7-12.
